Steps to an Agreement

Please follow these steps to initiate a new MOU or International Collaboration Agreement. We encourage you to start this process early because the time required to finalize the document can vary from weeks to months depending on the activities proposed, approvals required, partner-university response time, etc.

Step 1

Discuss your idea with your department chair and dean to confirm their support.

Step 2

Contact the International Contracts Advisor to schedule a time to discuss your agreement.  Please also review the list of Things to Consider, particularly if you need an International Collaboration Agreement.

Step 3

Global Engagement prepares a first draft of the agreement and consults with other campus offices on your behalf, as necessary. Global Engagement sends the draft to you for your review, and works with you to finalize it.

Step 4

Global Engagement provides you with a final draft that you share with your contact at the partner institution for their review and comment.  You inform Global Engagement of changes requested by the partner institution.  Global Engagement reviews the requested changes with other campus offices as necessary.

Step 5

When the draft is agreeable to both parties, Global Engagement facilitates the signature process. The partner institution keeps one signed original.  Global Engagement keeps the other signed original and provides you with a PDF for your records.
